Why this little book earns its place in your bag — and where it falls short.
If you only have two or three days in Warsaw, a 700-page tome is overkill. That's exactly the gap this Pocket edition fills. It strips the city down to what you can realistically cover on a short break and organises everything by district, so you spend your time walking instead of flicking between chapters.
What stood out to us most are the self-guided neighbourhood walks. Rather than a flat list of sights, each area gets a route you can follow on foot, with enough flexibility to wander off, grab a coffee, and pick the trail back up. The pull-out map tucked into the back cover is genuinely useful and saves you from constantly reaching for your phone — handy when you'd rather keep data roaming switched off.
It's strongest on the essentials every first-timer wants: the Old Town and Royal Castle, the moving Warsaw Rising Museum, and the increasingly hip bar and café scene across the river in Praga. The eating and drinking picks lean toward reliable, well-located spots rather than deep-cut local secrets, which is fair enough for a guide this size.
It isn't perfect. Because it was last revised in 2020, a few practical details — opening times, prices, the odd transport note — are worth double-checking before you go. And travellers chasing offbeat corners or a long, slow trip will quickly outgrow it. For a focused city break, though, it punches well above its weight.

Comprehensive but concise. Good maps.
Very handy, small, pocket size guide. I look forward to using it when I go to Warsaw in May.
Not fully accurate. The street we stayed in was in the wrong place on the map. Needs updating re concessions which are only available if you're in the EU. The info on the ferry wasn't right. It only goes once a day in the morning.
Invaluable! Had all the salient information.
Brilliant little guide book. Addition of city map was helpful but it was the little tours for various areas that were just brilliant. They were really easy to follow but also it was easy to break out and explore other stuff on route and then resume. Overall a brilliant compromise between what might have been a full size book and this pocket version you can easily pop into your bag when exploring the city. BTW Warsaw is awesome.
Another great guide book from Lonely Planet. These pocket guides are great for a short break.
Lonely plan is the best travel guide for every city! I enjoyed Warsaw and I planned a wonderful weekend with this book. Recommended!
